Process for Visa Application

You must look for American institutions or programs that fit your needs and qualifications. Once you have selected a suitable option, you need to apply to and be accepted by the college or program.

A school or program will issue you a Form I-20 once you have been accepted into it. To apply for a student visa, you must submit this form.

To activate your Form I-20, you must pay a fee to the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).

You need to make an appointment with the United States Embassy or Consulate in Nepal where you plan to apply for your student visa.

You must submit your visa application together with all required documents

  • Form I-20

  • Valid passport

  • 2x2 photograph

  • Proof of financial support (bank statement, scholarship letter)

  • Academic transcripts and diplomas

  • Score reports from English proficiency tests (TOEFL or IELTS)

  • Health insurance-related papers

  • Proof of payment for school tuition fees

  • Proof of accommodation arrangement

  • Interview appointment confirmation

  • Police Report & other document that the embassy

  • Any other document that the embassy or consulate may ask for

A consular officer will interview you and ask you questions about your educational plans, background, and other plans.

The U.S. embassy or consulate will examine and process your application and any supporting documentation. If your visa application is approved or denied, they will let you know.

You will reach the USA once you have finished all of your travel preparations. At the point of entry, you will be required to show your passport, visa, and Form I-20. After reviewing your papers, an immigration official will stamp Form I-539.

Keeping your student visa status is important once you have arrived and finished checking in. This includes enrolling in and maintaining full-time enrollment, maintaining an updated SEVIS record, and following all other policies and guidelines set by the program or institution.
